Moving To A New House? Follow These Tips For Convenient And Safe Transition

Moving into a new house is always a special occasion for a family. However, it is important to consider the safety and security of your belongings and valuables so that the transition does not turn out to be a disaster. Many people find settling down in the new house difficult due to the mess created. Moreover, considering the possibility of breakage of fragile items, it is important to protect them while in transit. A proper planning is required to find space to keep the objects quickly and conveniently in the new home.

Here are some handy tips to follow while moving to a new home.

First and the foremost, get sturdy and reinforced cartons. Although you may find cartons available free in your nearest shop, these can hardly protect your valuables during transportation. That is why; it is better to stick to the cartons provided by the moving companies rather than selecting the weak cartons that you get easily.

To provide cushioning to fragile items, pack them in the carton separated by sheets, pillows, blankets and towels. Pack glass objects and plates vertically to save them from breaking – you could place them flat or stacked in cartons. Pack the heavier items in smallest boxes possible. This will allow convenient carriage of the items. Also, inform the mover about the fragile items’ boxes to ensure that he takes them to the new location carefully.

Do not forget to label the boxes which contain important objects, especially those items which you would need urgently, right on the first day after transit. It is also a good practice to get the children to write the new address on the boxes.

You could pack the most important items in two “Open Me First” cartons. The objects that you need urgently include the items which you use on a daily basis. The most important among them are toothpastes, toothbrushes, tea bags, pet food and paper towels. The second carton will be useful in case your mover gets late delivering the objects on the moving day.

Request you friends to have your pets at home for a day or two so that the packers and movers can do the work without any disturbance. Moreover, remember a basic tip: do not plug in the electrical gadgets until they reach room temperature in your new home.

Another important point to remember is to keep the contacts of your old neighbors and other important persons handy in a notebook. Do not forget to label the carton in which you keep this notebook. It is also important to assist the mover in packing the cartons so that you have an idea where the things are being packed. Provide the men your contact details, such as cell phone and new home numbers, e mail ids etc. Also note down the driver’s phone number and the contact details of the mover. Lastly, take details of the warehouse where you plan to store your belongings in case you are moving to a new state or to another country. Remember, to inspect the warehouse for safety and cleanliness.

A little planning can save your a lot of time and effort. This is especially true when you are packing and moving to a new home!
